Wifi has been difficult to access—apparently a forign concept in Kansas. We went to Arches National park to see the delicate arch. It was a hot and long hike up red rocks to get to it but it was totally worth it. We stood under the arch which dropped off hundreds of feet on ether side of it, but we made sure to keep our balance. We left Aches and Moab and headed to Boulder, Colorado. What should have been a lot shorter drive took a lot longer because of the windy roads and dear. We are so appreciative that Gus is running again, and I think Gus is happy about it too. So appreciative in fact that he had taken to singing while we drive. His sounds exactly the sound that comes from the ice crusher in refrigerator unit (music to our ears). He makes his presents known wherever he goes. After going back and fourth on whether we had enough time, we decided to take a detour to the four corners. This is the old place in the United States where you can stand in 4 states at once (Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona). After what amounted to a 3 hour detour (which feels like nothing these days) we arrived at the four courners. Consistant with our luck, the monument was closed. So while we stood in all four of the states in question, we could not stand on them all at once-bummer. At least though we got to add some more stickers to Gus. We arrived at Michelle’s house (Max’s cousin) at 3am, in boulder. We took so much needed showers, our fifth showing in a little less than a month. Then, Michelle and John took us to the BEST breakfast we had had so far on the trip—Lucile’s. Fried ice cream, poached eggs with avacodo, cheesy grits, and the best biscuit I have ever eaten (sorry Portland) what could be better. We walked around Boulder, which is one of my new favorite cities. It has a few mile long lazy river that runs through the city! And the bike paths looked awesome.
As we left boulder we prepared us for an uneventful drive through Kansas. We were told that if you drop a cigarette butt in Kansas, it’s the new highest point in the state. We made our way to the exact geographical center of the 48 states. A tiny town by the name of Lebanon, KS. We got there just as it had gotten dark. In the middle of the night, we drove down what I think was a dirt path. All that was there was a four food tall stone monument, an American flag, a picnic table, a church made for a little person, and baby shoes. It was really really creepy. We cooked chili on the picnic table and left. The place gave me the creeps. We drove and drove. Stopped to sleep. Drove and drove some more. Currently, we are in St. Louis. It is very very hot and humid and our AC isn’t working again.
