July 12, 2010
The last 48 hours can categorized as "no good, very bad day(s)." After working on the floorboards for quite a bit of time, our brains of the operation (Alek) decided to go ahead and try and slice his finger off. One minute we are smashing floorboards in place and the next minute I hear "I see bone!" Max and Alek were off to the hospital in a flash. While attempting to take over where Alek left off, I came to the conclusion that tongue and groove fitting sound a lot simpler than it actually is. In case you didn't already know--wooden floorboards don't magically slide into place. It takes breaking your back, cursing, hammers, scrap wood, a saw, and an exacto (Alek's weapon of choice). By the end of the night we had tiling (I now know how to grout), flooring, and a new lock firmly installed. We concluded the night with a 4 AM trip to wally-world, to get more supplies for the day ahead. We exited Walmart to a fully risen sun.
