Max's First Entry

It’s my turn to contribute something to this blog. All I have to say is life without power is nothing I'm used to. Emma and I have been surviving with one phone between the two of us and praying that Candy (my GPS) will correctly take us everywhere we need to go. I followed Candy blindly for four hours last night after we left Saratoga at 12 and discovered that even GPS’s make mistakes. Ultimately though Candy took us to the perfect rest stop for us to call home. As I was lying down fully outstretched in our beautiful America cruising short bus, I discovered that nothing can make you feel more liberated and less tied down then knowing that for the next thirty days nothing matters but Emma the bus and the open road.

When I awoke, I realized how terribly mistaken I was. If you know me at all you know that mornings are not my strong suit; but this morning I was up and out of bed before you could say “hit the snooze button I will get up in ten minutes.” The absolutely hellish heat emanating and baking inside our bus got me up ready and driving to Niagara falls in less then the amount of times it normally takes me to roll over and fall back to sleep. Tonight hopefully we will have enough energy to start up the generator and use our fans.

We headed to the falls and walked around for about two and a half hours before we got lunch and headed out to our next adventure. Along the way to Ohio Emma and I were talking about how excited we are for this trip and how much we want to do. We came to the conclusion that Emma was excited to use her new porta-potty (meant for a 2 year old) and I could not wait to turn on our brand new 7,000-watt generator (that we got for an awesome deal).

Finally around eight o’clock we decided we were ready to break for the night and I had the perfect spot in mind. As we pulled into the Oberlin parking lot we got ourselves ready to go ask the campus safety officers if they had any open spots in their overnight parking lot. The response I got from the officer was sheer amazement; she was completely confused as to why anyone would want to sleep in a parking lot. She clearly has not gotten the memo that Creative Thought really does Matter!

I think I am going to call it a night and finish my last bite of burrito and say good night to you (just for the record I have been to Chipotle more times this week then there are days). I look forward to updating tomorrow and can’t wait for you to tell us were we should stop along our adventure. Good night for now and wish me luck with the generator.
